The Atlanta Thrashers are playing so well that they have dethroned the Washington Capitals from 1st in the Southeast Division, something most fans thought impossible at the start of the year. One can't help but give the Thrashers marketing team credit for trying to get more people to see their team win, including having the team mascot Thrash arrested until enough tickets are sold. Amazing.
The Green Suit men were back at it on Saturday when their Vancouver Canucks hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs. From their usual seat next to the penalty box, they tossed waffles at the Leafs players as sat in the sin bin. In response, Leafs fans threw waffles on the ice at the Air Canada Center Monday night when the Leafs lost to Atlanta. It is though times now when you are a member of the Toronto Maple Leaf organization.
Donald Fehr was officially hired as the new head of the NHL Players Association. Since November, Fehr had been serving as an unpaid consultant for the players union but on Saturday he took on full responsibilities as the union and the league head into discussions about the current Collective Bargaining Agreement and the next CBA between the 2 parties. Time will tell if Fehr is up to the task.
Sid Crosby now has points in his last 21 games and is one game shy of equaling the longest scoring streak since the lockout of 2004 when Dany Heatley scored in 22 consecutive games back in the 2005-06 season. Crosby may have scored 3 more points to add to his insane totals on the season but Evgeni Malkin scored twice and added 3 assists in the same game to steal the show.
Steven Stampkos scored his 100th career goal on Monday and became the 6th youngest player to do so.
