Tonight I participated in my first of 3 fantasy hockey drafts for the season, an 8 person head to head draft. Once the lottery was conducted I found myself in the middle of the pack at number 4; a very good spot to be in a snake draft. In this post I will talk about who I selected and why and after my other drafts I will do the same.
st Round- Daniel Sedin: He was the best player available at number 4 and should continue his scoring ways all year.
nd Round- Ryan Miller: Buffalo is greatly improved this season and so I am betting Miller will have another Vezina season as the go for the Cup.
rd Round- Zdeno Chara: Everyone was taking defence at this point so I thought I should take the force and star of the cup champions to anchor my team.
th Round- Jonathan Toews: This guy is a star and with Chicago expected to dominate this season, I think Toews will too.
th Round: Annti Niemi: I wanted some stability in net and Niemi gives it to me.
th Round- Claude Giroux: With the 2 big trades Philly made, Giroux is now the guy at center. And Yahoo lets him also play Right Wing if I need him to.
th Round- Jeff Skinner: Like Giroux he plays both center and wing. Hopefully this season is just as good if not better than his last one.
th Round- Kris Letang: Last season he proved he can be the power play guy for Pittsburgh; I expect him to continue that trend.
th Round- Marian Gaborik: I was happy to see him fall this far as he will score a lot of goals with Brad Richards feeding him the puck.
th Round- Loui Eriksson: Many people question this pick but Eriksson is a pure goal scorer. Plain and simple.
th Round- Alex Gologoski: The guy who will feed Eriksson the puck is Gologoski, one of the best defencemen when it comes to passing.
th Round- Chris Stewart: Another underrated forward, Stewart uses his big body to score goals.
th Round- Ryan Suter: Known as Shea Weber's partner, he may actually be better offensively and will be looking to do good in a big contract year.
th Round- Alexander Edler: With Christian Erhoff out of Vancouver, Edler can take the reigns as the power play quarter back, scoring many points in the process.
th Round- Dwayne Roloson: Tampa Bay will be competitive this year and Roloson will be a big reason why.
th Round- Dustin Penner: My last pick is a player who arrived at camp in the best shape of his life and ready to become a scoring superstar.
So there you have it; my first team of the year. Looking back, there are still some high potential players available, but I am confident in my team right now. As always you can follow me on Twitter via @jbenny15. You can also leave comments below this post with your own thoughts an opinions on what I write. Until next week, thanks for reading and good luck with your drafts.
